Language in Elsipogtog

Elsipogtog Community Resource Directory

Elsipogtog Migmag uses the writing style created by Father Pacifique.

The Migmag language is part of the Algonquian linguistic family.

The Father Pacifique Orthography is a 13 letter writing system
A         sounds like the A in (straw)
E         sounds like the A in (day)
G         hard G sound like the G in (good)
I         has the EE sound like the E in (see)
L         regular L sound
M         regular M sound
N         regular N sound
Ô         has the "oh" sound like the O in (stove).
Notice the little roof over the Ô
O         has the "oo" sound like the O in (stool).
Sometimes it sounds like a W.
P         can sound like a P and also the B
S         regular S sound
T         regular T sound and sometimes the D sound
TJ         this one has a "ch" or a J sound
