Canoe-Trip 1976
*
Canoe trip 1976 was organized by the late Vincent Knockwood from Indian Island. This cultural event was a great human interest story about nine native men from various Reserves in New Brunswick who volunteered to go on an 1100 canoe trip. The trip began on the shores of Indian Island, northward up the Northumberland Strait, across the Chaleur Bay into Quebec, around the horn of Gaspe penninsula, up the St. Lawrence River, and it ended (30 days later) in Montreal (for the Olympics).
